No Phantoms, Just Errors, Says Dr Xavier

SHAH ALAM: Selangor state executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar today denied that there were phantom voters in the PKR Kota Raja polls, which resulted in his victory as division head after 66 hours of vote counting.

Quizzed by reporters here, he said the duplication of names and addresses was the result of a technical error originating at party headquarters.

Yesterday, FMT reported that the electoral list for the division contained 150 dubious voters. Names and addresses were duplicated, and so were the MyKad numbers except for two digits.

"Even though there is a duplication of names in the list, that does not mean that those people voted twice,” Jayakumar said. “Everybody voted once and went off.

"If you give me your IC number and it is different in the list although your name is the same, you are still not allowed to vote."

He said the relevant documents had been with the headquarters since the party was formed and that it was its responsibility to clean up the lists.

Nevertheless, he added, he was prepared to be investigated by the party.

"I won with a huge majority of more than 900 over votes. It’s not like I won by three or five votes. So they can go and investigate. No problem. I am open to an investigation, but I am sure they will find that there is a technical error."
