Ministry Lying On Minimum Wage Act

BN Has Sold Its Soul to the Capitalist Agenda

The Human Resource Ministry is lying on the reasons why the Government does not want to implement the Minimum Wage Act. From day one, the Ministry has said that they cannot implement this act because the employers are not agreeable. The Ministry in previous statement has said that it is the philosophy of the Government to follow the Market system in determining wages and will not implement the minimum wage. This were at least more truthful answers.

Today we are told, the reason for the non implementation is because not many responded in the blog. It is ridiculous and outrageous to make us believe that a major policy in this country will be determined by the numbers of feedback received from a blog. Does it mean that if a get thousands of feedback in email hits calling for the Minister to resign, then it will happen?.

The workers do not have such luxury. The Ministry seems to believe that most Malaysia workers who work for 12 hours and do long over-time work as well as second jobs, will spend time in surfing their blog.

The Malaysian Trade Union Congress- the largest union in the country and as well as hundreds of NGOs and political parties have called for the implementation of the Minimum wage act. The May day declaration yearly endorsed by many groups have called for this  - consistently over the decade. It seems the Government becomes deaf and blind when workers make a demand but will easily kow-tow if the employers make a decision.

Meanwhile the BN Government is very determined to pass news laws in Parliament which will allow for trigger easy to fire workers as well as restrict workers to seek compensation.

PSM condemn the BN Government for selling its soul to the capitalist Agenda and have done everything possible to suppress the workers in the country.

The Minimum wage act will ensure the well being of workers who are lowly paid. It will reduce the gap between the rich and the poor as Malaysia has one of the highest income disparity in Asia. It will help kick-start the 10th. Malaysian Plan which wants to make Malaysian earn better wages, it will help to overcome the current cheap labour policy where exploitation of workers is justified to bring in investment and profits.

The BN Government simply does not have the political will to implement this pro-workers Act. The BN Government will not go against its Masters. The BN Government has to go!

The workers have nothing to lose but their chains, it is time to fight back
