MB to Tamil school PTAs: How did you spend RM4mil?

SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim has directed the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) in all 97 Tamil schools in the state to explain how they spent the RM4 million allocation. The Selangor state government has set aside RM4 million a year for Tamil schools to help reduce their operation costs.

In an inaugural dialogue session organised by the Selangor Education Committee last Saturday, Khalid heard PTA representatives from the Tamil schools voice their problems and seek counsel and shared views on the development of Tamil schools in the state.

The committee had organised the dialogue in a bid to hear the views of all parties involved. Also present were state executive councillors Ronnie Liu, Hassan Ali, Xavier Jeyakumar, Halimah Ali and Rodziah Ismail.

“We had organised this meeting with the MB, excos and the PTA and school representatives to hear their views and study the RM4 million allocation we have set aside for Tamil schools.

‘I have asked all Tamil schools representative to provide us with information about their school and how the funds channelled to the PTA was used. We want to know the details so that we can study the expenses and see how best to put the funding to effective use,” said Khalid.
He said through such dialogues, the allocation could be studied carefully to ensure that the funds reach the targeted groups.

Let Jayakumar Handle Tamil School Funds

PETALING JAYA: A Tamil Parent-Teacher Association is up in arms against state executive councillor Halimah Ali taking charge of funding for Tamil schools.

Watson Tamil School Parent-Teacher Association feels that the matter should be handled by Dr A Xavier Jayakumar instead.

Its chairman, S Sugumaran, said Jayakumar (the exco in charge of Indian affairs) should be allowed to continue managing the funding for Tamil schools as he had been doing a good job.

On Aug 2, Halimah, the state exco for education, told a meeting of parents of Tamil school students that allocations for Tamil schools will not be managed by Jayakumar but herself.

Said Sugumaran: “As far as I know, Jayakumar had distributed allocations to Tamil schools dutifully. All the schools need to do is to submit a working paper on whatever projects they plan to do and he will approve the allocation if it is beneficial to the schools.”

On allegations that Jayakumar had not distributed funds to all 97 Tamil schools in the state, Sugumaran dismissed the claims, saying that perhaps the schools had been ill-advised on the proper procedures for applying for such funds.

Selangor Exco Files Police Report Against Accusers

Selangor exco Xavier Jayakumar lodged a police report at Klang police station this morning, claiming several individuals had made a baseless and false allegations against him.

The report was made against Klang's Parents Teachers Association chairperson, G Jeganathan.

He also named former Selangor PKR treasurer, KS Kotappan, in the report.

NGO: Dana dibelanjakan Untuk Pendidikan Tamil

Tiga pertubuhan bukan kerajaan, (NGO) yang dituduh menerima peruntukkan RM 1.58 juta daripada kerajaan Selangor mendakwa dana berkenaan telah digunakan bagi pembangunan pendidikan Tamil di negeri itu.

Tiga NGO itu adalah ialah Pusat Maklumat, Pembelajaran dan Pembangunan Kanak-kanak (Child), Yayasan Tamil Malaysia dan Yayasan Pendidikan, Kebajikan dan Penyelidikan Tamil (EWRF).

Ahad lalu, Pengerusi, Persatuan Ibu bapa Klang, G Jeganathan membuat laporan polis terhadap exco Selangor, Dr Xavier Jeyakumar menyeleweng wang berkenaan dengan menyalurkannya kepada tiga NGO berkenaan.

Penyelaras program pembangunan sekolah Tamil bagi ketiga-tiga Ngo itu, K Arumugam pada sidang medianya mengakui mereka menerima wang berkenaan daripada kerajaan negeri.

SHAH ALAM (Jan 19, 2010): Police from the commercial crime department of the Subang Jaya District police headquarters questioned Selangor executive councillor for welfare, estate workers and caring Dr Xavier Jayakumar government initiatives over a police report lodged on alleged abuse of funds allocated to Tamil schools.

Xavier was questioned by ASP Hamdan Jali and Insp Anfal from 4.30pm to 6pm at his office in the state secretariate building today.

Slow Learner Project in Tamil schools

The Slow Learner Project (SLP) is one of the many programmes that is being funded by the State Government and carried out by NGO's in Tamil schools statewide. If we were to simple give the RM 4 million directly to PIBG and School Boards we will not achieve the long-term goal of developing students and helping them to break the cycle of poverty they live in.

b. Objectives of project

· To encourage, inspire and facilitate slow learners to gain interest in reading and writing through fun learning using modules specially prepared for the purpose.

· To enable the slow learners to be able to read and write and join the mainstream within 3 to 6 months in the programme.

· Children from less privileged backgrounds realize their inherent potential.

1. Laporan tersebut tidak jelas. Setakat yang mana boleh difahami daripada laporan tersebut adalah tohmahan niat jahat secara umum untuk memburukkan ataupun mencemarkan badan-badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) dan YB Dr Xavier Jayakumar yang terlibat dalam program-program untuk membangunkan sekolah-sekolah Tamil di Negeri Selangor.

2. Persatuan Ibu Bapa dan Guru berkenaan dalam laporan boleh mengubungi mana-mana badan NGO untuk mendapatkan maklumat berkenaan program yang sedang dijalankan di sekolah mereka. Badan-badan NGO sentiasa mengambil langkah-langkah proaktif untuk menghubungi sekolah-sekolah Tamil melalui persuratan,

pengumuman melalaui surat khabar Tamil, radio dan telivisyen.
